General Motor's newest proposal in the minivan segment, the 2012 Chevrolet Orlando, is so close but yet so far away for U.S. consumers. You see, the Detroit-based automaker today announced Canadian pricing for the Orland before it arrives in dealers across the country in October 2011.

Chevrolet Orlando Seen On www.coolpicturegallery.usThe South Korean-built people carrier hit European dealerships in the beginning of the year and even though the bigwigs over at GM had initially made plans to bring it over to the States, they reconsidered and decided to offer the 7-seater model only in Canada.

The 2012 Orlando will be available in Canada in three trim levels, with pricing set at CA$19,995 (US$20,260) for the LS model, CA$22,295 (US$22,591) for the LT and CA$29,735 (US$30,130) for the flagship LTZ model.

Power for all models comes from a 2.4-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine with direct-injection technology that delivers an output of 174-horses.

When hooked up to a six-speed manual, it delivers an estimated fuel consumption of 6.7lt/100km (35.1 mpg US) on the highway and 10.1 lt/100 km (23.3 mpg US) in the city, while the 6-speed automatic delivers 6.9 lt/100 km (34 mpg US) on the highway and 10.6 lt/100km (22.2 mpg US) in the city.

"The new Orlando builds on the transformation of Chevrolet's fuel efficient and versatile product portfolio, offering a family-friendly vehicle in a key segment in the Canadian market," said Kevin Williams, president and managing director of General Motors of Canada. "With its expected segment-leading fuel efficiency and standard 7-passenger seating, Orlando should be a popular choice with Canadian families."

Toyota to Build RAV4 EV in Canada, Sales Start Next Year

Having cleared up the misunderstanding on whether or not the pure-electric RAV4 will be sold to the general public (it will), Toyota and partner Tesla Motors confirmed today that their jointly developed EV SUV will be built at the Japanese company’s Canadian manufacturing plant in Woodstock, Ontario starting from 2012.

“The Tesla-Toyota joint development team has agreed that building the vehicle at the Woodstock plant on the same line as the gasoline-powered RAV4, will streamline and simplify the production process and guarantee the highest level of quality control,” said Ray Tanguay, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC) Chairman.

Toyota previously revealed that it will pay Tesla Motors around $100 million to supply the electric powertrain, which includes the battery, motor, gear box and power electronics for the RAV4 EV.

The maker of the Tesla Roadster will manufacture the components of the electric powertrain at its production facility in Palo Alto, California and then ship them to Canada for final assembly into the RAV4 EV.

Toyota said that the RAV4 EV will be sold through its U.S. dealerships with information on the precise launch date and pricing to be announced at "a later time".

Unless you are enjoying a Fast and Furious flick on the couch, in real life, you rarely hear about car thieves stealing a bunch of vehicles from the same owner.

Yet this happened in the Canadian city of Calgary where some very slick bandits made off with not one, not two but a dozen (!) brand new vehicles from a local Nissan dealership.

The Calgary police said that the thieves broke in the Sunridge Nissan dealership on Sunday , July 24, and stole the keys from 20 different models including sedans, SUVs and trucks, but managed to drive away with "only" 12 vehicles.

"During that break and enter we had 20 keys taken. A subsequent inventory of the vehicles on the lot revealed 12 vehicles were missing," Staff Sergeant Patrick Ochitwa told the local media.

It is estimated that value of the stolen vehicles is somewhere around CA$361,000. According to the local police, all 12 models have been flagged and cannot be registered.

If you're wondering what kind of cars the thieves managed to steal, check out the list below:
